The Chequamegon will leave the city dock for Suttons Bay promptly at 9 o'clock next Wednesday morning, the occasion being the annual picnic of the Old Settlers Association. The Traverse City band will be aboard the boat and there will be an abundance of good music. (Plus more news from 1908.)

Eighteen of the lady friends of Miss Inez Rex were present last Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. R. D. White in Williamsburg to participate in a shower for the lady whose wedding occurs tomorrow. One year ago today two inches of snow fell in Traverse City, the temperature dropped down to 32 degrees, and a gale rose out of the north, sweeping the city and doing considerable damage. Albert Olin of Kalkaska won't dynamite any fish for 30 days at least and maybe not for 60. Perhaps he will as a fine of $20, $5 costs and 30 days in jail is a pretty bitter dose of medicine. It seems that Olin and his son thought that the easier way to fish the Boardman over by Kalkaska for brook trout was to use dynamite but unfortunately for the Olins, the law doesn't sanction it. Justice Ole Hutchins and Marshal G. W. Barry of Fife Lake arrived in the city this afternoon bringing George Humble, Clyde Case, Charles Gustafson, Elery Balwin and Ed Graff, the men, or rather boys, who broke into a boxcar at Walton Station Sunday night and were taken to Fife Lake yesterday. They surrendered dynamite and other property from the burglarized car and were each sentenced to serve 30 days in the county jail. (Plus more news from 1908.)

Grand Traverse County with all of its beauties and fine farms has not the roads that it should have. Many of its residents have expressed such a criticism for quite some time. The city council again has the matter of moving the fire department under consideration. Many residents believe the Petertyl property on the corner of Union and State Streets is very desirable and that the price asked, from all accounts and judging by the expression of those who know, is not excessive. "Uncle Dan" Whipple, aged 108 years, the oldest man in northern Michigan, is dead at the home of N. C. Griswold at Hatches Crossing, the end coming in just the manner he had often wished it would come, quietly and peacefully. (Plus more area news from 1908.)

Last Thursday two dogs entered the chicken house in which Miss Nettie C. Gray had a flock of White Plymouth Rock chickens and slaughtered 16, leaving them bleeding and mangled on the floor of the coop. (Plus more news from 1908.)

Norman Ford, the 2-year-old son of Will Ford, had the index finger of his right hand severed at the first joint Wednesday afternoon by a pair of shears in the hands of his cousin, Iva Getchell, the 2-year-old daughter of Charles Getchell. (Plus more news from 1908.)

Judge Mayne granted two decrees of divorce last evening. Myra Brown was granted a decree from Sylvester Brown and Margaret Horen was from Francis C. Brown. The grounds for both cases were extreme and repeated cruelty and non-support. (Plus more news from 1908.)

Burleigh Fletcher, a former resident of Traverse City, died Saturday at Thompsonville from injuries which he received in falling from a sleigh, dying a few minutes after he fell. (Plus more herald news from 1908.)

Death came to Mrs. Sophia Herman, aged 22, last Monday afternoon while she stood talking with her husband, who had just finished loading a sleigh with logs prepatory to bringing them to town. (Plus more news from 1908.)
