-- The city council again has the matter of moving the fire department under consideration. Many residents believe the Petertyl property on the corner of Union and State Streets is very desirable and that the price asked, from all accounts and judging by the expression of those who know, is not excessive.

-- Persons going aboard the Missouri this season would scarcely recognize the interior of the boat from last summer. The interior decorations have all been changed by a force of men under the eye of Steward George LeRoy. The state of artistic luxuriousness will rival that of any boat on the lakes.

-- Mrs. Theodore Rodgers, a resident near Mayfield, who was very ill during the past winter is now able to ride out from home. She was in the village Saturday afternoon to do some shopping and visit a few friends who were pleased to see her and know that she was feeling better.

-- Death again entered the County Line neighborhood and taken a loving wife and mother. Mrs. Charlie Skinner died at her home Saturday morning. Mr. Skinner leaves her husband and six children, James, Leana, Harold, Leo, Nelson and an infant babe only one week old to mourn her passing. The body was laid to rest in Maple Leaf cemetery.

-- There will be a granite shower given at the home of Mrs. R. D White in Williamsburg tomorrow evening by Mrs. White and Mrs. Cora Scofield in honor of Miss Inez Rex. Miss Rex is to be married May 27 to H. Eugene Hill, a former resident of Williamsburg, but now proprietor of the store at Angell.

-- The city council has noted that inasmuch as the bicycle ordinance was being violated continually that it should take some action rescinding the action of last July 1 when riders were given permission to use the walks under certain conditions. It is now thought that they should be barred from all walks.

-- H. A. Musselman, manager of the Musselman Grocery Company, accompanied by Mrs. Musselman and daughter, Eleanor left Thursday for a three weeks' trip in the south. They will visit Mr. Musselman's mother near Gettysburg, Pa. and spend a few days in Baltimore. During the trip, Mr. Musselman will attend the convention of the National Wholesale Grocers' Association at Atlantic City.

-- The social and progressive pedro party given by the Catholic ladies in Maccabee Hall at Old Mission Friday evening was a great success, $29.30 being cleared. The money will go toward purchasing a carpet for the new church at Mapleton. An excellent supper, one of the best every served on the peninsula, was a feature of the evening and this was followed by card games, 16 tables being occupied. Afterward, a number of those present enjoyed a dance.

-- Wandering all alone in the alley near the corner of Eighth and Maple Streets, a little girl about 18 months old was found by two boys Monday evening and taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Pierce, who have recently moved into the residence at 525 West Seventh Street. The baby was unable to tell her name, the extent of her vocabulary being the words, "Mamma" and "Cookie".

-- The Hannah & Lay Mercantile Company have just issued a very complete catalogue of the stocks of the various departments of the big store. The book is the largest of its kind every published in northern Michigan, containing 84 pages, the theme of the message sent out to the trade in the region being, "Everything for Everybody at The Big Store".

-- Attention has been given to the city council about the habit of fast driving in the city limits saying that some of the autos go too fast for the comfort and safety of the citizens. The committee on police will instruct the chief to arrest all drivers going faster than the legal speed.

-- Advice on deportment. Dinner place settings should include a plate, two large knives, a small knife and fork for fish, three large forks, a tablespoon for soup, a small oyster fork for raw oysters and a water goblet.

-- Medical advice of a century ago. Pure air, pure water, pure food are essential and fundamental to good health.

-- Best buy of the week. Canvas gloves, 25 cents at Steinberg Bros.
