Readers ID woman, man in flower photo

Several readers responded to a request for information on the Traverse Area Historical Society archive photo that appeared in the Jan. 13 Community section. The photograph was of two men presenting flowers to an older woman.

Milo Dewitt identified the two men in the photo as Fritz Coopens, center, and Ken Hadley, right. Dewitt said Coopens worked for a local oil company, while Hadley was employed at the Traverse City State Hospital. He said both men belonged to the local Elks club.

Jerry Gallagher identified the woman in the photo as his grandmother, Elizabeth Gallagher. Margaret Sophiea also said the woman in the photo was Elizabeth Gallagher. She said her grandmother might have been receiving flowers in honor of Mother's Day at a program put on by the Traverse City Eagles Club.

Traverse Area Historical Society archive photos that appear in the Community section can be found online at www.gtherald.com/history.
