Alan Hejl has recently achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America.
Alan began his Scouting experience in Hancock as a Tiger Cub in the Cub Scout program. He achieved his Arrow of Light award and began Boy Scouts in Havre, Mont. He is a certified BSA lifeguard, a member of the Order of the Arrow and served Troop 10 Benzonia, sponsored by Blaine Christian Church, as Senior Patrol Leader, Troop Guide, Quartermaster, Troop Scribe, and Troop Historian.
For his Eagle Project, Alan set up an exhibit for the Benzie Historical Museum. In a vacant pavilion he set up an agricultural equipment exhibit. He arranged the equipment so that tours could be given and the guides are able to demonstrate how the equipment is used. A large part of the project was finding names and functions for the equipment.
He is a top-10 graduate of Benzie High School and will be attending Michigan Tech this fall to study computer science.
His parents, Eileen and Gregory Hejl, of Lake Ann, will honor his achievements at his Court of Honor and a reception afterward on Aug. 17 at 4 p.m. at the Blaine Christian Church, Joyfield and Putney Road, south of Benzonia.
