Friends and strangers alike are pitching in to raise money to defray medical and living expenses for Lori Hall Steele, a local freelance writer unable to work due to a paralyzing and as-yet-undiagnosed illness. A benefit fund-raiser will be held in her honor Saturday at Mercato in Building 50 in Traverse City where a silent auction will feature books, artwork, services and treats.
