Tickets on sale for July garden walk
RAPID CITY -- Tickets are on sale for the Juniper Garden Club's garden walk.
The theme for the July 9 walk is "Gardens with a Water View." Six gardens around the south shore of Torch Lake will be open to visitors from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine.
Tickets are $7 in advance at the Muffin Tin, Carter's Candles in Alden, The Lark's Nest on Crystal Beach Road, Garden Goods and Cottage Gardens in Traverse City, Mullaly's 128 Studio and Gallery and the Farm Market in Elk Rapids, and Cornell Crossing Hallmark Store in Kalkaska.
Tickets the day of the walk are $9 and will be available at the Alden Depot, where there also will be picnic space for lunch or a break and Pine Hill Nursery will have retail space. For details, call 331-4018.
Leelanau Dems hold food drive
MAPLE CITY -- The Leelanau Democratic Party and Organizing for America are sponsoring a food drive in response to President Barack Obama's call for a National Day of Service.
Food or cash donations may be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Hansen Foods in Suttons Bay, Deering's Food Market in Empire, Buntings Cedar Market, The Mercantile in Leland and at Anderson's Market in Glen Arbor. Donations will go to the Empire Area Food Pantry at Glen Lake Community Reformed Church and Leelanau Christian Neighbors at Suttons Bay Congregational Church.
Sale for Operation Christmas Child
TRAVERSE CITY -- Operation Christmas Child Northern Michigan will hold a garage sale beginning at 9 a.m., Thursday, through noon, Saturday, in the pole barn located at 547 Spring Hill, off Garfield Road south of Emerson Road. Scripps to speak at league meeting
TRAVERSE CITY -- Dan Scripps, state representative of district 101, will speak at the Friday meeting of the Leelanau Unit of the League of Women Voters Grand Traverse Area. The meeting begins at noon in the Community Room of the Leelanau County Government Center. The public is invited. Bring a sack lunch.
Scripps will update the league on activities in the state Legislature and on his own experiences as a first-term legislator. A business meeting will follow his presentation.
