Petoskey attorney Robert Engel was inducted into the Michigan State University School of Criminal Justice Wall of Fame at the Kellogg Center on the MSU campus. The Wall of Fame Award honors a select group of alumni of the School of Criminal Justice who have distinguished themselves by attaining the highest level of professional accomplishments while demonstrating strong personal integrity and character.

Child and Family Services honored staff, volunteers, human services professionsl and others at the annual dinner Nov. 2.

Attorney Mike Long, of Zimmerman, Kuhn, Darling, Boyd, Quandt & Phelps, was named Humanitarian of the Year for his work with children and families in Family Court.

Holly Hack, Colleen Macdonald and Jill James were named Volunteers of the Year. Hack and Macdonald are board members of Child and Family Services and co-chairs of the Festival of Tables. Macdonald is also the foster and adoptive mother of five children. James has spearheaded design and decor projects for CFS, as well as marketing and fundraising projects.

Regina Jaeger was given the Leadership Award for her work as board president.

Northwestern Bank was given a Partnership Award for the efforts of its employees in volunteering, fundraising, sponsorship and advocacy

Russ and Marcia Baugh, of Boyne City, were this year's Testimonial Family. The Baughs adopted a son from Uganda and are parenting their two grandchildren.

With the support of the community, area schools and businesses, Honor State Bank collected 7,492 pounds of food and raised $6,842 in its annual Food 'N' Things Campaign. All donations went to the following area food pantries: St. Joseph Pantry in Onekama, Church of the Brethren in Brethren, Northwest Michigan Food Coalition, Senior Center in Manistee, Marilla Township Food Pantry, Benzie Food Partners, Kingsley United Methodist Church, St. Mary's of Hannah, Buckley Wayside Chapel, Grant United Methodist Church, Lake Ann Methodist Church, First Congregational Church of Benzonia, Benzie Area Church of Christ and Benzie Area Christian Neighbors.

The Friendly Garden Club of Traverse City recently awarded several grants to organizations in the Grand Traverse area.

Grants were awarded to the Grand Traverse Conservation District, the TBA Green house, the TBA Horticulture program, Saving Birds thru Habitat, The Botanical Society of NW Michigan, The GT Children's Garden and Habitat for Humanity.

The main purpose of The Friendly Garden Club is to educate its members, community and youth in the areas of horticulture, nutrition, proper land use, landscape design, flower arranging, childrens' gardening and Arbor Day recognition.

The Northern Michigan Detachment of the Marine Corps League installed new officers for two-year terms. Hord Hardin, of Harbor Springs, commandant; Bill Soellner, Harbor Springs, senior vice commandant; Mike Griffin, Charlevoix, junior vice commandant; Bill Bielas, Petoskey, paymaster; Mike Griffin, Charlevoix, acting adjutant; Jim Linderman, Harbor Springs, judge advocate; Drew Whipp, Petoskey, and George Wahl of Charlevoix, co-sergeant-at-arms; and Ray Fisher, East Jordan, chaplain.
