Spec. Andrew Stone, son of Melinda Stone and the late Jeffrey Stone and grandson of Richard and Linda Stone and Russell and Joan Willingham of Kingsley, returned from Iraq after a 16 month deployment. Stone serves as a mechanic and has earned the Army Commendation Medal, as well as Marksmanship, Driver and Mechanic Badges. He graduated second in his class and is now stationed in Fort Bragg, N.C.

Navy Seaman Recruit Jason Nolf, son of Lynn Elliott of Traverse City and Daniel Nolf of Cadillac recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. During the eight-week program, Nolf completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness. Nolf is a 2006 graduate of Mesick High School.
