-- Mrs. Hoffman's second-grade class at Willow Hill Elementary School was selected as one of the winners of the Traverse Area District Library "10 Reasons to use the Public Library this Summer" contest.

-- The following students of the Northwestern Michigan College Art Department recently were awarded for their work in the Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition. Best of Show: Marcia Borell. -- Five students from Traverse City East Middle School recently competed at the Michigan History Day State Competition: Ian Cummings and Alex Gill (Group Web Site); Paige Pfannenstiel (Individual Documentary); Mia Hagerty, Erin Cover and Jessica Reehorst (Group Documentary); Lucas Nielsen (Historical Paper); Nicole Tubacki (Historical Paper). Tubacki was named a National Finalist Alternate for Historical Paper and won the Elly Peterson Award/Best Entry in Michigan Women's History -- Junior Division. Finalists in the junior and senior categories will compete in the National History Day competition in June in College Park, Md.

-- Katie Bell recently graduated from Cedarville University (Ohio). A 2005 graduate of Traverse City Christian School, Bell is the daughter of Doug and Sue Bell of Traverse City.

-- Traverse City Area Public Schools' Michele Greenan, executive assistant to Chief Financial Officer Paul Soma, has been awarded the Michigan Institute for Educational Management School Administrative Professional Certification Award, a voluntary certification program sponsored by the MIEM, which is co-owned and operated by the Michigan Association of School Administrators and Michigan School Business Officials.

-- Luke Hessler, of Traverse City, a junior at Traverse City West Senior High School, has been selected to participate in the National Student Leadership Conference on Mastering Leadership this summer at the University of Maryland.

-- Caleb Park, a Hope College sophomore from Traverse City, recently received a Political Science Department Book Award.

-- Western Theological Seminary of Holland recently bestowed the Distinguished Alum Award on Arthur O. Van Eck, of Fife Lake. Van Eck is a 1951 graduate of the seminary.
