Eleven boys and girls from Traverse City, ages 9 to 14, were named local champions for the 2010 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship and have earned the right to compete at the district level.
St. Francis Council 13958, Grand Traverse Council 1213 and Christ the King Council 9979 combined to sponsor the local competition at the Traverse City St. Francis High School gym.
The winners were: Ana Walters, Sam MacDonald, Paige Forrester, Brady Buell, Rachel Howse, Jake Hendricks, Megan Knudsen, Jacob Newhouse, Kayla Howse, Michael Marsh and Noah Phillips.
Each contestant was allowed 15 free throw attempts in the competition. Ties were settled by successive rounds of five free throws per contestant until a winner emerged.
Each of these winners will compete in the district competition at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13 at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Middle School in Traverse City.
