The GLOC Vipers defeated the Web Hosting Wildcats 4-3 to win the Grand Traverse Hockey Association Cherry Cup in bantam hockey play. It is the second straight year coach Gary Chouinard has led GLOC to the Cherry Cup.
The championship game featured a hard fought battle that closed the third period with both teams knotted at 2-2. JJ Chouinard and Matt Patmore scored in regulation for the Vipers, while Chris Burr and Dylan Henderson notched goals for the Wildcats. Mitch Gamelin, Kaleb Rodes and Brady Miller added assists for the Vipers.
Neither team scored in the ensuing five minute sudden death overtime, highlighted by the goaltending of GLOC's Brandon Gamelin and Wildcat Dylan Snider. The game ended with a five player shoot out where Rodes and Chouinard scored for GLOC and Joe Tuck scored for the Wildcats.
GLOC made their way to the finals by winning three games and losing one in round robin play.
Excellent defensive play highlighted the tournament with Ian McGraw, Gwinn Lord, Brady Brantley and Drew Black having stellar performances. Mitch Wise, Tim Barber and Will Challender each had critical goals and assists in the tournament to move GLOC into the championship. Goaltending duties were shared by Brandon Gamelin and Tayler Curtis. The Vipers are coached by Gary Chouinard, Jeff Black, and Steve Patmore with manager Tom Rodes.
