March 26, 2008 04:00 am Connor Kerndt, representing the Traverse City Trojan Wrestling Club, won a silver medal in the Petosky Invitational Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, attended by 650 wrestlers. Kerndt's record was an impressive four wins and one loss, pinning one opponent in nine seconds. On Sunday, Kerndt won a gold medal in the Michigan Youth Wrestling Tournament Northern Regional in Ithica. He wrestled two of the top rated wrestlers in the state, in earning his regional championship. He defeated Gavin Villabos 2-0 by getting a takedown with 10 seconds left in the first period and then dominating his opponent with strong riding time. In his championship match he beat Travess Smith of Hesperia, 6-1 in an exciting match. This weekend at Michigan State University, the seven regions converge on the State Youth Wrestling Championship in East Lansing.
