April 16, 2008 04:00 am After winning the Northern Michigan regional wrestling tournament two weekends ago in a dominating way, Connor Kerndt of the Traverse City East Junior High Wrestling Club participated in the Michigan Youth Wrestling State Championships. Held at Jenison Fieldhouse at Michigan State University, April 6 and 7, the event hosted 2,000 athletes of all ages from across the state. Kerndt placed eighth in his division out of 30 wrestlers in his bracket by defeating two highly ranked regional champions 2-0 and 6-1. He lost to the eventual state champion and freestyle national champion Travis Sproles from Dundee. He wrestled a very exciting and close match against Luke Banning of Detroit who ultimately placed third.
